Welcome to Thome Boys Secondary School, a leading public institution committed to academic excellence, leadership development, and character formation. Established in 2010, the school has grown into a center of distinction, consistently achieving impressive results in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Located in Laikipia County, near Thome Shopping Center and bordering the renowned Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the school provides a disciplined and serene learning environment. Rooted in strong Christian values, while respecting diverse beliefs, we strive to nurture well-rounded individuals equipped with knowledge, skills, and integrity for self-reliance and national development.
Guided by our motto, “Scaling Academic Heights,” we offer a broad-based 8-4-4 curriculum and are preparing to implement the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) from 2026. This will introduce specialized pathways in STEM, Social Sciences, and Sports Science, ensuring students are well-prepared for modern career opportunities.

History of Thome Boys Secondary School
Thome Boys Secondary School was established in 2010 as a public senior secondary school under the Ministry of Education and the County Education Board (CEB). It was founded to provide quality education to boys in Laikipia County, particularly in Laikipia Central Sub-County, Tigithi Ward. The school is strategically located near Thome shopping center, 21 km from Nanyuki town, and borders the world-renowned Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
Since its inception, Thome Boys Secondary School has grown significantly in student population, academic performance, and infrastructure. Despite the increasing enrollment, the school remains committed to its motto, Scaling Academic Heights, and continues to uphold excellence in education and character formation.
The school has consistently performed well in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), earning recognition as a center of academic excellence. It operates under strong Christian values while respecting other religious beliefs, fostering discipline, leadership, and integrity. With a broad-based subject combination under the 8-4-4 curriculum, the school has been instrumental in nurturing young minds, preparing them for self-reliance and national development.
As part of its long-term vision, the school is preparing for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) integration. In 2026, Thome Boys will introduce Grade 10, specializing in two major pathways: STEM and Social Sciences, alongside selected Sport Science subjects.

Key Milestones and Achievements
1. 2010 – Establishment:
The school was founded with a small number of students and limited facilities.
Learning began under challenging conditions, with modest structures in place.
2. 2013 – First KCSE Candidates & Academic Recognition:
The school presented its first cohort of KCSE candidates, who performed well, setting a strong academic foundation.
Achieved remarkable KCSE results, earning recognition as an institution of academic excellence in Laikipia County.
3. 2015 – Growth in Student Enrollment:
The student population increased significantly, leading to a demand for more classrooms, dormitories, and laboratories.
4. 2022 – Expansion of Facilities:
Additional classrooms, dormitories, and laboratories were constructed to accommodate the growing student population.
More subject combinations were introduced, broadening academic opportunities for students.
5. 2023 – Leadership Transition:
The founding Principal, Mr. Samuel Mweri, retired on age grounds, paving the way for the second school Senior Principal, Mr. Steven Mathenge, to take over the mantle.
Strengthened the student council, fostering student leadership and discipline.
Intensified mentorship programs, encouraging students to focus on academic excellence and personal development.
6. 2025 – Preparation for CBC Integration & Strategic Growth:
Launched the School Strategic Plan (2025-2029) to enhance academic and infrastructural development.
Initiated the school website to enhance communication and engagement.
Intensified efforts to improve KCSE performance, aiming for higher transition rates to universities and other higher learning institutions.
Finalized plans to introduce Grade 10 in 2026, preparing for CBC implementation with specialized pathways in STEM, Social Sciences, and selected Sport Science subjects.
Leadership and Governance
The Board of Management (BOM), under the leadership of the founding Chairman, Dr. Ng’ang’a Kamithi, has played a pivotal role in steering the school through these milestones. Since 2010, Dr. Kamithi has provided dedicated and selfless service, ensuring the school's steady growth and success. As he completes his term and tenure, he is set to retire in June 2025, ushering in a new Chairman to continue the school's journey of excellence.
